We were delighted to see that in the league tables, which came out a few weeks ago, we were the top school in Derbyshire. This is a tremendous achievement and we are very proud. This is due to last year’s Year 6 SATs results. If there are over 11 in a cohort then the results are published in the league tables. The SATs results at Turnditch are of a high standard year on year, but due to only having 7 or 8 in a cohort during the last few years, they haven’t been published. It was therefore lovely to have some national recognition this year, but at the same time we must remind people that if we don’t appear in the league tables next year, as we didn’t last year – it’s not because standards are down, but because there was under 11 in the cohort!

The results at Turnditch are a direct result of extremely responsive children, excellent teaching and supportive parents. A lot of hard work goes into achieving the standards we do. Even more hard work goes into ensuring that the children are not pressured, that they are happy and receive a broad and balanced curriculum – not just Numeracy and Literacy. To ensure that this happens takes a whole team of people. Midday Supervisors, teachers, teaching assistants, cooks, secretaries, helpers, crossing patrol, governors, guest visitors- everybody singing from the same hymn sheet, having the children’s best interests at heart, giving them the best opportunities possible and most importantly giving them a smile when they see them.
